This old coal mining town is the largest town on the North West Coast. The town itself offers little for the visitor, but is often used as a jumping off point for the rugged Kahurangi National Park, the Buller Gorge or the beautiful Paparoa National Park. Westport has some rich history, which is detailed in the Coaltown Museum. It is also close to fur seal colonies at Cape Foulwind.
