Methven & Mount Hutt

Methven is a small town that quietly prepares for the annual onslaught of skiers and snowboarders who come for the snow on Mount Hutt. It has a great range of accommodation, but budget places fill up months in advance for winter. There are not a lot of facilities in town, but there are a couple of good pubs, and during snow season the atmosphere is buzzing day and night. It is surrounded by Canterbury farmland, 92km from Christchurch. In the area there is good salmon fishing, golfing and jet boating in the Rakaia Gorge.

Coming and going and local transport

Methven Travel run a Christchurch–Methven shuttle bus service and during the ski season they also operate a bus service linking Methven with the Mount Hutt ski area. They usually pick up and drop off at your accommodation, although they sometimes also stop at the i-SITE Visitor Information Centre.
