Privacy policy

At bugnewzealand.com, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This privacy policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by bugnewzealand.com and how we use it.

If you have additional questions or require more information about our privacy policy, do not hesitate to contact us through email at tim@bug.co.uk.

How we use your details

We don’t collect any personal details from our users but your personal data may be displayed on our site if you have written a review on Foursquare and you may be asked to supply personal details if you are taken to another website after clicking an advertisement or after clicking to book an activity. As we don’t collect any personal details from you we will not sell or disclose your details to any third party, except when required to by law.

This website uses an API that displays reviews written on Foursquare. If you have written a review on Foursquare, your review (along with your avatar and username) may be displayed on bugnewzealand.com.

If you book an activity through bugnewzealand.com your booking will be processed by BookIt. When you make a booking, you will be taken to the website of one of this third-party booking agency and the way your personal details are used will be governed by the privacy policy of the respective company that processes your booking.

We also have affiliate arrangements with other companies where we earn a commission for buying travel insurance; bus, coach and train tickets and for pre-booking entry to adventure activities and tourist attractions. When you click to book or buy any of these products or services you will be taken to another website and will be subject to the privacy policy of that site.

Our site uses cookies dropped by us or third parties for a variety of purposes including to operate and personalise the website. Also, cookies may also be used to track how you use the site and to target ads to you on other websites.

Your rights to your data

You have all the rights to your data as laid out by the European Union’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). Since we don’t sell anything directly to people using our website (accommodation bookings, attraction tickets and transport are processed by third-party companies as listed above) these rights pertain to the name you may give us if you write a review on our site.

In short your rights to your data are as follows:

Your right to be informed You have the right to know how your data will be used and this should be clear from reading this privacy policy.

Your right of access to your data This is almost the same as your right to be informed. Essentially, you have the right to know what personal data we hold (we don’t collect any of your data, but we may have data that was imported via the Foursquare API) and how this data is processed (if you wrote a review on Foursquare, your username and avatar may be displayed next to any review you wrote).

Your right of rectification You have the right to update any details we hold about you.

Although we don’t collect any details about you, your details from reviews you have written on Foursquare may be displayed on bugnewzealand.com. Simply log in to your Foursquare account if you want to update these details.

Your right to erasure (your right to be forgotten) Basically nothing you write on bugnewzealand.com is permanent if you don’t want it to be.

Since the reviews on bugnewzealand.com were imported from Foursquare, if you decide that you no longer want people to read any reviews you have written, just log in to your Foursquare account and delete your review(s) and any review you have written will be removed from both Foursquare and also from bugnewzealand.com. Alternately, we can remove or change your username. It’s up to you.

Your right to restrict processing You have the right to stop us from doing anything with your data. Easy. We don’t do anything with your data that isn’t mentioned in this privacy policy and we have no plans to. Nothing to worry about here.

Your right to data portability You have the right to do what you want with your own data. While we maintain copyright of our content on this website, any reviews you write remain your own data.

Your right to object You have the right to object to how your data is being used. That shouldn’t be a problem as we’re not going to do anything with it that isn’t mentioned on this privacy policy.

Your rights of automated decision making and profiling We don’t do anything like this with your data so there is nothing to be concerned with.

In short: if you want to have a review displayed on this website and want to change your avatar or username simply log into your Foursquare account and change it. Likewise, if you no longer want your reviews on our site, log into Foursquare and delete them and they will be removed from Foursquare, bugnewzealand.com and any other website that uses the Foursquare API.

The above applies not only to reviews imported from Foursquare, but also to other content and photos on our site. While we take care to ensure that anyone’s personal details are not shown on our site without their permission if you find that you are mentioned by name anywhere on bugnewzealand.com just let us know and we will remove your name from the site. Likewise if you find a photo of you to our website, just let us know and we will either remove the photo or pixilate out your face or anything that identifies yourself in the photo.
