Okarito

Okarito is a tiny settlement on the edge of the stunning Okarito Lagoon, 28km north of Franz Josef Glacier. The main reasons for a visit to Okarito are the Kiwi tours and water-based activities on the lagoon. Some people use it as an alternative to staying in Franz Josef, but this is only if you are looking for isolation and extreme quiet, as there are no shops or facilities here. Hence, you will need to bring your own supplies.
